Planning a Grand Holiday
You just bagged several thousands or millions of British pounds from the national lottery. In no time, relatives and friends will be knocking at your door, calling on the phone, or leaving off-line messages requesting for some treat. You can write cheques or withdraw money for them. You can also take them to a grand vacation.
It is normal for lottery winners like you to make major expenditures. Taking your family and close friends to a luxurious trip may incur you a sizeable amount, but it will be worth it. This could be one of your when-I-get-rich fantasies, and now you are finally able to do it.
When spending for a vacation, think like any prudent individual would. Regardless of the amount of cash you have, it is limited and will not grow if you just spend it. Therefore, make a vacation budget and stick to it. You may go especially generous this time, but consider sparing a good amount for savings and investments. Determine what kind of vacation you desire to have. You may go on a five-day cruise, a month-long ski vacation, or a week-long tropical holiday. Next, identify the people who should go with you because it would be financially disastrous to bring the entire neighbourhood or the whole clan. Bring your immediate family members, a few close relatives, and a handful of close friends. Then, establish the itinerary and decide on the places you will visit. Calculate the necessary expenses such as fare, travel insurance, guided tour fees, hotel accommodation, and travel allowances. Your budget must be realistic and not something that will break the bank. While on vacation, there will be lots of temptations – casinos, bars, shopping malls, restaurants, theatres, etc. Always stick to your budget and refrain from spending for extras. At best, just bring enough money with a little allowance. Whenever possible, avoid extending your stay or journeying outside your itinerary. If there are special places you would like to see, check if you can afford it based on the vacation budget. Remember that a prolonged trip can be extremely expensive. More grand vacations are possible if your money multiplies, so do not spend everything at one time. The idea is to have fun and come home still a wealthy person.
